Over the past two years, I have proudly volunteered with the Victoria Pride Society, working to support its mission of fostering equity, inclusion, and belonging for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. My passion for this work, coupled with decades of experience advocating for marginalized voices, makes me ready and eager to contribute as a board member. I bring over 30 years of leadership experience in male-dominated fields. In 1991, I was one of the first women to serve onboard a destroyer in the Canadian Navy, breaking barriers and challenging gender norms. Later, I transitioned into Federal Corrections, where I've worked across all security levels to foster inclusive environments, recognizing the power of allyship in creating systemic change.
As Chair of the Employment Equity and Diversity Committee at William Head Institution, I spearheaded initiatives like implementing Progressive Pride sidewalks - creating a ripple effect to other institutions - allowing visible, impactful symbols of allyship for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals in challenging environments. Beyond my professional work, I founded a non-profit boxing club to break barriers in another male-dominated space. The club not only provided opportunities for women and 2SLBGTQIA+ athletes, including trans individuals, but also creates empowering, inclusive spaces that foster confidence and community.
My lived experience breaking barriers in the Military, Federal Corrections and sport has driven my commitment to dismantling systemic inequalities and amplifying marginalized voices.
