ticket to ride

ticket to ride

by Sara Marie Nason

nanny’s body, collapsed

carnival balloon from the county fair

that grampy     ran

shrunken, pulled plastic,           pliable

her tremors: excitement, once

after eights wrappers

spilled everywhere

(“I could eat a whole tin”)

nanny paints the rock in the garden

a grave

grampy goes under

nanny deflates

no phone in the nursing home &

no chocolate at all
