Esquimalt Community Arts Hub
901 Esquimalt Road

Hours 10:00-5:00

Jointly presented by the Victoria Pride Society and the Esquimalt Community Arts Hub, “For the Love of Us ALL” is a Queer art exhibit exploring community, love, Pride and diversity.
Hours 10:00-5:00
Fridays 10:00-3:00
Sundays: by appointment for groups
Reserve your private Sunday viewing here
A central theme of the exhibit is exploring intersectionality within the Queer Community.
Intersectionality is a concept that recognizes that social factors such as ethnicity, socio-economic status, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, and ability overlap and create amplified experiences of marginalization.
Within the exhibit, the ECAH community curatorial team will create space, place and belonging for those with interconnected identities.
A primary goal of “For the Love of Us ALL” is recognising that the Queer Community is in fact numerous individual Queer Communities, each with its own unique challenges, and that a better understanding of each others’ journeys and experiences will strengthen our bonds and better enable us to move towards a shared vision of a world without marginalization.
“To effectively challenge society towards creating a better and safer future, we must first look inwardly at our own biases, how we treat each other and most importantly, we must listen and we must learn.”

QUEER POP-UP GIFTSHOP
In addition to the show itself, ECAH will be hosting a “Queer pop-up Giftshop” for the duration of the exhibit to facilitate our local Queer artisans/makers in recovering from what has proven to be an extremely challenging year. Most artisans/makers were not able to participate in the traditional market circuits due to COVID restrictions over the past year, including the annual Victoria Pride festival, and they need our support.
100% of all sales will go directly to the artisans/makers.
ABOUT THE VICTORIA PRIDE SOCIETY
Victoria Pride is a not-for-profit organization of volunteers that is dedicated to supporting Greater Victoria’s LGBTQ2+ communities.
VPS creates opportunities for visibility, collaboration, ongoing conversations and celebration as we work towards equality for all people of diverse gender and sexual identities.
The Victoria Pride Society acknowledges that it organizes and works on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples, and that the land’s historical relationships with the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples have existed since time immemorial. Further to this acknowledgement, the Victoria Pride Society affirms that colonialism, and the attitudes and practices that have accompanied it, contributes to systemic discrimination and violence against Indigenous Peoples.
ABOUT THE ESQUIMLAT COMMUNITY ARTS HUB
ECAH’s values are expressed through six different big-ticket words.
These six words: Community, Amplify, Accessible, Authentic, Personal Growth and Mentorship aren’t just fluffy terms that score us brownie points – they flow directly into our actionable goals, strategies and tactics.
We use these values to help shape our programs and decisions. We believe they are the values of the community we represent.

Pride at Work Canada Presents:
Matrices: Trans, Non-Binary & Agender Digital Connect
Tuesday, March 16 2021
12:00pm - 1:30pm
Location
Online Event
Pride at Work Canada is proud to present the second installment of Matrices: Trans, Non-Binary & Agender Digital Connect, a free networking event for trans, non-binary, and agender professionals and jobseekers! Building on the momentum from the recent Toronto Trans, Non-Binary and Agender Networking Breakfast and Rendez Vous: Women x Non-Binary Digital Connect, this one will again bring together individuals across Canada.
Kicking-off our discussion is guest speaker Diséiye Thompson, a fashion designer whose work has wowed audiences at scaled events like Toronto Fashion Week, as well as private fashion shows. Diséiye will deliver their brief remarks, and then the attendees will be placed into 10 random breakout rooms to discuss their story or any other topic (we won’t have conversation inspectors). After the breakout room discussions, we’ll have a group-share moment to close the session and provide any relevant follow-ups.
Presenter – Diséiye Thompson (they/them), Fashion Designer, DISÉIYE
Born and raised in Nigeria, Diséiye from an early age was drawn to the craftsmanship of tailoring, learning from their mother’s tailor to repurpose scraps of fabrics into garments for their siblings. Moving to Toronto at age 15, they studied Contemporary Arts at Ryerson University and classically trained in design at The Toronto Academy of Design, later graduating in 2016 and showcasing their final collection at Toronto Fashion Week and the Fly Beyond Cancer Benefit, which raised funds for survivors.
Drawing inspiration from their Nigerian heritage; Diséiye’s design aesthetic highlights the exuberance and vibrancy of their culture in both colour and silhouette. Diséiye also draws inspiration from the ballroom community which they have been part of since 2016; this has been an avenue for expressing themselves via dance as well as a platform to explore and showcase their creativity.
Diséiye has continued to hone their design skills and techniques during an apprenticeship with Greta Constantine and designing for Lea-ann Belter Bridal. They also created their own clothing line, which was showcased inFashion Art Toronto and Brosche Bridal. Diséiye currently specializes in customized clothing and celebrity styling; working on music videos and live performances for artists like Aiza and DVSN.
Why is this event taking place?
While many events and networks are inclusive of trans, non-binary and agender people there are questions and discussions unique to these community members and their experiences. Pride at Work Canada seeks to create space for professional and job-seeking trans, non-binary and agender people to find support from and make connections with one another. We hope to be responsive to the needs and suggestions expressed by our attendees as this feedback helps to shape future events.
Who should attend?
The purpose of this event is to provide space for folks who identify as trans, non-binary and agender. There is no desire to monitor anyone’s gender or create barriers to entry. If you come to this event you will be welcome. While the support of people who identify as allies to trans people and communities is always appreciated please remember that the best support sometimes comes in the form of leaving space for people to connect around their shared identities and lived experiences.
Who can answer my questions about the event?
Please direct questions about this event to Jade Pichette at jade.pichette@prideatwork.ca. You may also contact info@prideatwork.ca with questions about any Pride at Work Canada events and activities.

Queerudition is a series of free workshops held once every two months and put on by the Victoria Pride Society’s Youth Council. Each workshop is a different topic, from spiritual LGBTQ+ communities to baking to history of LGBTQ+ piercings! This event is organized by youth and for all ages.
This workshop will be held through an Instagram story on the @queerudition page. The video will be saved so everyone will be able to watch it after the initial release.
The workshop will be facilitated by Jennifer Gibson and Nick Sandor, who are both community educators at Island Sexual Health.
Join them on July 31st for a conversation about sexual health through the lens of a sexual health toolkit. You bring the questions and they will bring their sexual health education tools. Whether it is about bodies, relationships, or access to healthcare, they want to make sure that you have everything you need in your toolkit.
Workshop participants will guide the workshop through their questions and curiosities to cultivate the sharing of knowledge and experience from community members and sexual health educators. Jennifer and Nick will also be providing a virtual tour of Island Sexual Health to help you learn more about how to access their services.

A playreading of Eddi Wilson’s solo show, Animal Medicine is presented as a part of Victoria Pride 2020, with the support of the Victoria Pride Society.
What do you get when you cross a Two-Spirit Métis agnostic, a career in veterinary medicine, and a pathological preoccupation with parasites?
Part biology lesson, part pet therapy session; Animal Medicine explores the experience of a self-diagnosed human. Creator/performer Eddi Wilson uses music, monologue and movement to dissect what they have learned from a life spent staring in the microscope.
About the artist:
Eddi Wilson is a Victoria based dancer, gender bender, shape shifter and performance artist. They are a member of Riot Grrrls Burlesque Revue, Atomic Vaudeville, co-founder of King Fling, and winner of the coveted local titles Showdown Champion and Mr. Gay Vancouver Island 2015. Their alter ego Eddi Licious is a familiar face in YYJ drag and burlesque venues, regularly MCs performance cabarets and was featured in CBC’s Canada’s a Drag.
Recent credits include: Atomic Vaudeville’s Rocky Horror Live, UNO Fest 2017, Wet Coast Presents: Buttlesque, Disney Deconstructed: A Feminist Burlesque Showcase, and The Hootenanny at Logan’s Tavern of the Damned.

The Memorial Drag Ball Game has been a unique mainstay of Victoria Pride Week for over 25 years. But few know the origins of this epic baseball game between drag kings, queens and things.
Join Victoria Pride as we premiere a documentary on the history of this unique event on the VPS YouTube channel:
ABOUT THE MEMORIAL DRAG BALL GAME
One of Victoria Pride’s signature events, the Memorial Drag Ball Game traces its roots back to 1993. A group of friends, several of them drag performers, were grieving the loss of many in the community from HIV/AIDS. They wanted a day to forget about that reality, about politics and to play a game.
They have returned to that game every year since.
Over time, more people have joined and the gathering founded on resilience has also become a celebration of community. Keeping the name to remain authentic to its roots, the Memorial Drag Ball Game now draws up to 1000 spectators who, every year, let go of differences, embrace fun and absurdity, and just come for the DRAG of it!

SAFER SPACES
Victoria Pride Society organizes events where everyone is responsible to help create and maintain safer spaces for participants that celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity, and which are free of all forms of oppression and anything that can harm or limit our rights and personal well-being.
Victoria Pride Parade is a family-inclusive event. For this reason, we ask all participants to refrain from actions and images that are excessively violent, sexually explicit, or which may be otherwise distressing. Our desire is not to limit self-expression but to ensure that the context in which it occurs is appropriate for everyone.

The Boys in the Band – Playreading
Saturday, July 6 2019
Doors: 6:30pm
Event: 7:30pm - 9:30pm
Location
The Boys in the Band has been called “a true theatrical game-changer, which helped spark a revolution by putting gay men’s lives onstage — unapologetically and without judgment — in a world that was not yet willing to fully accept them.” The Boys in the Band centres on a group of gay men who gather in an NYC apartment for a friend’s birthday party.
After the drinks are poured and the music is turned up, the evening slowly exposes the fault lines beneath their friendships and the self-inflicted heartache that threatens their solidarity.
This play reading of The Boys in the Band is directed by Stuart Aikins and features Victoria’s local talents (artists to be released soon!). Proceeds from ticket sales support the Victoria Pride Society.
The play premiered Off-Broadway in 1968 and was revived on Broadway for its 50th anniversary in 2018 starring Matt Bomer, Zachary Quinto, and Andrew Rannels.
Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
Tickets $20 in advance or online.
The box office will open at The Metro Studio at 6:30pm on the evening of the show, and the doors to the theatre will open at 7pm.
ACCESS:
The Metro Studio is wheelchair accessible and has two all-gender washrooms and a wheelchair accessible washroom on the ground floor.

A ball game like no other!
One of Victoria Pride’s signature events, the Memorial Drag Ball Game traces its roots back to 1993 when a group of friends decided to hang out in a park, play ball… and do drag. The intention was to have a break from politics, commercialism and sponsorship while poking fun at themselves.
What began as a fun day with friends has turned into a spectacle that draws up to 1000 spectators. Come out and enjoy a perfect sunny day while watching (or playing) a fun and lighthearted game of ball in drag! Please help keep the air clear for everyone by respecting the city bylaw against smoking in parks.
WANT TO JOIN THE GAME?
Everyone is welcome to play! Simply choose whether you’d like to play for The Queens or The Kings and pick a name for your drag persona. To qualify, the Queens traditionally need to be wearing lipstick and a wig and the Kings traditionally need to have facial hair… but since drag is all about gender-bending we are flexible! We’ll also have some items for you to borrow should you need some assistance! If you’re planning to play, please arrive early so that you have enough time to check-in.
