Board members are expected to:
Prepare for and attend monthly board meetings
Commit to at least 6 hours per month with more time required in the lead up to the Victoria Pride Festival
Attend a board orientation session.
Be a member of at least one committee and attend monthly committee meetings (Community Engagement, Governance & Board Development, Finance, Youth Engagement)
Provide direction to support the society’s mission and goals
Attend Pride events and functions when possible
Volunteer as needed during the Victoria Pride Festival
Be an advocate and speak to the work of Victoria Pride
Commit to a 3 year term
Board members may be elected by the board to an officer position which involve additional responsibilities.
Victoria Pride aims for a Board that is representative of the communities we serve. We recognize that the work of being a board member is a significant investment of personal time which can be a barrier to participation. We strive to accommodate all board members to the best of our ability.
Victoria Pride needs people who are:
Passionate about the needs and concerns of Victoria’s gender, sexual and relationship diverse (GSRD) communities.
Understand the need to prioritize serving trans, non-binary and QBIPOC communities.
Eager to contribute to the work that makes the Victoria Pride Festival possible.
Directors must be VPS members in good standing to be nominated to the board and are elected by Victoria Pride Society members at the Annual General Meeting.
