Join Our Team – Event Coordinator

Timeframe: Mid-May to mid-July

Reports to: Executive Director

Compensation: $20.50 / hour.

Purpose: The Victoria Pride Society is seeking an exceptional Event Coordinator to help coordinate and execute Victoria Pride Festival events. Candidates must be eligible to work through the Canada summer jobs program (ages 15-30, and legally able to work in Canada). The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director while being a part of a collaborative team of volunteers and contractors that is driven to deliver memorable and inclusive 2SLGBTQIA+ events to the community in Greater Victoria. The Event Coordinator will be mentored by the Executive Director, members of the Board of Directors and other volunteers with specialized event, communications and logistical expertise.

Responsibilities:

The Event Coordinator will work with Pride staff and volunteers to assist in the delivery of successful Victoria Pride Festival events, including:

  • provide coordination support as required before and during Victoria Pride Festival events.
  • work with the VPS team to implement plans, schedules, and event logistics with vendors, event organizers and community partners.
  • coordinate travel, accommodation, and logistical needs as directed for events.
  • coordinate on-site event set-up and tear-down working with the Festival site supervisor to ensure load-in and load out is seamless.
  • liaise ongoing with the VPS Volunteer Coordinator, Communications Director, Partnership Director and Executive Director to ensure successful delivery of event coordination.
  • communicate with event participants, sponsors, partners and contractors to keep them informed.
  • perform a variety of general administrative functions, as required.

Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate should possess a diverse skill set that includes:

  • Event coordination or event on-site knowledge or education.
  • Experience setting up logistics, schedules and run sheets.
  • Strong organizational skills and multitasking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communications skills.
  • Willingness to pivot, learn and listen during busy Pride season.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
  • Ability to multi-task on a variety of operational needs.
  • Experience or willingness to learn online tools such as Google Drive.

Preference may be given for:

  • Experience with event management and planning.
  • Experience working for positive change within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities or equity deserving communities.
  • Applicants who are  2SLGBTQAI+.
  • Applicants who are Indigenous, Black and/or otherwise racialized.
  • Applicants with a disability.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Applicants must be 15–30 years of age and a permanent Canadian resident, citizen, or refugee. This position will be full time, for eight weeks, starting in mid-May until mid-July 2022.
