The Victoria Pride Society (VPS) produces the annual Victoria Pride Parade and Festival, as well as other events throughout the year. VPS is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting Greater Victoria’s 2SLGBTQIA+ communities by creating opportunities for visibility, collaboration, ongoing conversations and celebration.

Purpose:

The Festival Director oversees the overall success of the Pride Festival Finale taking place on Sunday, July 3, 2022. Working with a team that includes Victoria Pride event coordinators, our Executive Director, Board and Committee Chairs, you will be responsible for overall site planning, logistics and overseeing the execution of the Festival Finale.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this part-time, paid contract position include:

Event Planning

  • Lead the creation of an inspiring, experiential Pride Festival Finale event in collaboration with the VPS team that is welcoming to our 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in expressing their authentic selves.
  • Lead site planning and map out the event footprint.
  • Lead and be the primary point of contact for logistical planning for the finale event.
  • Review and approve festival vendor applications in collaboration with the VPS team.
  • Be the main point of contact for festival vendors.
  • Identify volunteer requirements in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Ensure permit, funder and other health and safety requirements are met.

Pride Festival Finale Oversight

  • Be the primary point of contact on site during the finale.
  • Oversee the set up and take down of the venue according to the approved site plan.
  • Oversee execution of the finale plans in collaboration with VPS team leads.
  • Ensure the smooth transition from daytime experience into evening.

While the Festival Director is expected to be self-motivated and independent, VPS operates as a cohesive team and the successful applicant is expected to collaborate with team members as necessary and embody the work culture that embraces kindness, respect, integrity and love.

Core Competencies:

The successful candidate should possess a diverse skill set that includes:

  • Events management experience of at least 3-5 years.
  • Clear knowledge of festival planning from overseeing permits to ensuring the load in and out is seamless.
  • Experience or willingness to learn an online tool such as Monday.com and Google Drive. 
  • Strong organizational skills and multitasking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with and motivate volunteers.
  • Familiarity with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. 
  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and still bring out the best in others and yourself.

Preference may be given for:

  • Experience working for positive change within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities or equity deserving communities.
  • First Aid and Serving it Right Certificates.
  • Applicants that are 2SLGBTQAI+. 
  • Applicants that are Indigenous, Black or otherwise racialized.
  • Applicants with a disability.
