Join Our Team – Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director
Time commitment: 15-20 hours/month
Description: The Volunteer Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring that the Society fulfills its mission. Working with a team that includes Victoria Pride event coordinators, our Executive Director, Board and Committee Chairs, you will be responsible for recruiting and overseeing our volunteers.

 

The responsibilities for this volunteer position may include:

  • Recruiting volunteers for the 2022 Pride season through new and existing channels.
  • Creating detailed volunteer plans for each event across the season.
  • Be the primary point of contact for event volunteers day to day and on-site during events.
  • Developing a list of volunteer positions needed in partnership with event coordinators and the committee chairs.
  • Creating postings for volunteer positions.
  • Booking venue space, creating content and facilitating volunteer training sessions.
  • Ordering, and managing delivery of volunteer supplies (t-shirts, lanyards, and sponsorship fulfillments) in tandem with the Merchandise Coordinator.
  • Ensuring the wellbeing of all volunteers while on the event site.
  • Plan and implement volunteer recognition programs after the PRIDE season.

While the Volunteer Coordinator is expected to be self-motivated and independent, VPS operates as a cohesive team and the successful applicant is expected to collaborate with team members as necessary and embody our work culture that embraces kindness, respect, integrity and love.

 

Core Competencies:

The successful candidate should possess a diverse skill set that includes:

  • Experience with Google Drive and google apps such as docs, sheets and forms.
  • Willingness to learn an online management tool such as Monday.com and use the Volunteer database at Volunteer Victoria to recruit volunteers.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating volunteer-based committees and training sessions.
  • Strong organizational skills and multitasking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with and motivate volunteers.
  • Familiarity with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and still bring out the best in others and yourself.
