We’re Hiring a Communications Manager

Contract Dates: November 2022 – July 2023

Job Type: Part-time contract with possibility for renewal

Compensation: $28-$32 per hour depending on experience 

Estimated contract hours: 20-30 hours/month. Hours will be highest in May, June and July.

Description: The Communications Manager develops and oversees the implementation of communication strategies that advance the reputation of the Victoria Pride Society, informs the public on the organization’s activities and facilitates collaborative communications with stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Operational

  • Draft and get approval of a communications strategy and plan that increases awareness of Victoria Pride activities.
  • Draft and get approval of a content calendar.
  • Lead event promotion in collaboration with Festival and Parade Managers.
  • Oversee drafting and sending of monthly newsletter. 
  • Support website updates including vendor and parade applications.
  • Respond or forward incoming inquiries.
  • Handle all incoming media inquiries.
  • Assist with writing and editing materials such as emails, press releases and other communications products.
  • Assist with post-event reporting.
  • Attend meetings as necessary.

 

Leadership

  • Recruit for and Chair Communications Committee.
  • Recruit and manage communications and social media contractors and volunteers.

While the Communication Manager is expected to be self-motivated and independent, VPS operates as a cohesive team and the successful applicant is expected to collaborate with team members as necessary and embody our work culture that embraces kindness, respect, integrity and love.

 

Requirements:

The successful candidate should possess a diverse skill set that includes:

  • 2+ years of experience in a communications-related role or relevant degree, diploma or certificate.
  • Experience managing teams of staff and volunteers.
  • Experience working within a budget and tracking expenses. 
  • Skilled in project management, communications planning and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Ability to keep calm in high-stress situations. 
  • Flexibility to work weekends and events as required.
