Contract Dates: November 2022 – July 2023

Job Type: Part-time contract with possibility for renewal

Compensation: $32-$38 per hour depending on experience

Estimated contract hours: 80 hours/month and up to 160 hours or more a month in May, June and July

Description: The Festival Manager oversees the successful planning and delivery Victoria Pride Festival events including the Memorial Drag Ball Game, Big Gay Dog Walk, Pride in the Word and the Festival Finale. Accountable to the Board of Directors, the Festival Manager will oversee festival staff and be the main point of contact regarding festival event logistics and execution.

Responsibilities:

Operational

  • Oversee timely planning for each Victoria Pride Festival event within the approved budget and vision. 
  • Provide input on event design, layout, activities and programming.
  • Ensure all necessary permits are secured and sites reserved.
  • Collect proposals and book equipment and/or labour from suppliers or contractors.  
  • Respond to event-related inquiries. 
  • Recruit, vet, organize and ensure a good festival experience for a diverse group of vendors for the Festival Finale event with equity deserving 2SLGBTQIA+ vendors centered.
  • Draft and get all necessary approval for event site plans.
  • Consolidate event information for the Communications Team for promotion. 
  • Assist with event logistics such as set up, tear down and storage locker organization.
  • Attend board and other meetings as needed.
  • Assist with post-Festival reporting.

 

Leadership

  • Oversee and chair the Festival Committee.
  • Oversee hiring of seasonal and event staff including Canada Summer Job Grant positions.
  • Manage Parade Manager, Volunteer Manager, Liquor Services Manager and Partnership Manager and Entertainment Manager.
  • In collaboration with Volunteer Manager, define volunteer positions and shifts for each event. 
  • Oversee Festival Finale site during event.
  • Ensure an on-site leader is present at each Festival event.
  • Provide monthly progress reports on event deliverables to Board.

While the Festival Manager is expected to be self-motivated and independent, VPS operates as a cohesive team and the successful applicant is expected to collaborate with team members as necessary and embody our work culture that embraces kindness, respect, integrity and love.

 

Requirements:

The successful candidate will demonstrate that they possess a diverse skill set and experience that includes:

  • 2 years of experience in an event-related role or certification in event management. 
  • Experience managing teams of staff and volunteers.
  • Experience working within a budget and tracking expenses. 
  • Skilled in project management, event planning and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Ability to keep calm in high-stress situations. 
  • Flexibility to work weekends and events as required.
