Jointly presented by the Victoria Pride Society and the Esquimalt Community Arts Hub, “For the Love of Us ALL” is a Queer art exhibit exploring community, love, Pride and diversity.

A central theme of the exhibit is exploring intersectionality within the Queer Community.

Intersectionality is a concept that recognizes that social factors such as ethnicity, socio-economic status, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, and ability overlap and create amplified experiences of marginalization.

Within the exhibit, the ECAH community curatorial team will create space, place and belonging for those with interconnected identities.

A primary goal of “For the Love of Us ALL” is recognising that the Queer Community is in fact numerous individual Queer Communities, each with its own unique challenges, and that a better understanding of each others’ journeys and experiences will strengthen our bonds and better enable us to move towards a shared vision of a world without marginalization.

To effectively challenge society towards creating a better and safer future, we must first look inwardly at our own biases, how we treat each other and most importantly, we must listen and we must learn.

QUEER POP-UP GIFTSHOP

In addition to the show itself, ECAH will be hosting a “Queer pop-up Giftshop” for the duration of the exhibit to facilitate our local Queer artisans/makers in recovering from what has proven to be an extremely challenging year. Most artisans/makers were not able to participate in the traditional market circuits due to COVID restrictions over the past year, including the annual Victoria Pride festival, and they need our support.

100% of all sales will go directly to the artisans/makers.

ABOUT THE VICTORIA PRIDE SOCIETY

Victoria Pride is a not-for-profit organization of volunteers that is dedicated to supporting Greater Victoria’s LGBTQ2+ communities.

VPS creates opportunities for visibility, collaboration, ongoing conversations and celebration as we work towards equality for all people of diverse gender and sexual identities.

The Victoria Pride Society acknowledges that it organizes and works on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples, and that the land’s historical relationships with the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples have existed since time immemorial. Further to this acknowledgement, the Victoria Pride Society affirms that colonialism, and the attitudes and practices that have accompanied it, contributes to systemic discrimination and violence against Indigenous Peoples.

ABOUT THE ESQUIMLAT COMMUNITY ARTS HUB

ECAH’s values are expressed through six different big-ticket words.

These six words: Community, Amplify, Accessible, Authentic, Personal Growth and Mentorship aren’t just fluffy terms that score us brownie points – they flow directly into our actionable goals, strategies and tactics.

We use these values to help shape our programs and decisions. We believe they are the values of the community we represent.
