Open Space presents Kindling Writers Festival, a literary festival that celebrates the work of emerging LGBTQ2S+ writers, performers, and artists whose works opens up possibilities of care, kinship, and community.

Alex Leslie, Jane Shi, Kayla Czaga, Kimmortal, and Whess Harman will feature in this weekend of readings, discussions, and workshops, alongside featured artists L’Amour Lisik, Reid Urchison, and Kerri Flannigan.

Events will be held between Open Space and Legacy Gallery.

Festival program:

Friday, March 22 [Open Space]

7-10pm Reading and opening celebration featuring writer Alex Leslie and artist Whess Harman, as well as a performance of poetry and music by Kimmortal.

Saturday, March 23 [Open Space]

11:00am—1pm Comics workshop with L’Amour Lisik and Reid Urchison

2:00pm—4pm Discussion: Writing ancestors with Alex Leslie, Jane Shi, Whess Harman. Moderated by Sally Yue Lin.

Sunday, March 24 [Legacy Gallery and Open Space]

11:00am—1pm Discussion: Why poetry? with Kayla Czaga and Kimmortal. Moderated by Ann-Bernice Thomas. [Legacy Gallery]

2:00pm—4pm Reading featuring Jane Shi and Kayla Czaga [Legacy Gallery]

6:00—8pm Potluck and zine share [Open Space]

The festival will close with a communal meal at Open Space to celebrate the end of the festival; folks are invited to bring food, zines, poems, comics or other creative projects to share!
